Frequently Asked Questions

What do you charge?

See Ted’s ‘Rates’ Page. Ted is not the least expensive DJ. You’re getting a higher-level quality product. Experience creates magic!

What is included?

Ted’s service is all-inclusive. You are paying for a wall-to-wall music environment. Ted is based in Coralville, Iowa, and plays with no travel fees within a 100 mile radius. There are no more additional fees, travel, set-up, or otherwise. There are no fees for in-person consultations prior to your day.

Will Ted be my DJ?

Yes, if you hire Ted, you get Ted. Ted is a one-man show! As a member of the Eastern Iowa Disc Jockey Association, if Ted is not available on a given date, he will be happy to recommend an experienced and qualified DJ for your big night. Quality control is what the association is all about.

What experience do you have?

See Ted’s ‘About’ Page. As a mobile DJ, Ted has mastered the art of the wedding dance, with twenty plus years of experience, and a list of past clients as long as your arm. With that much DJ road-time under his belt, it’s a sure bet that Ted knows and understands music as well as any DJ you’ll meet, and he knows how to create environments using it.

What kind of equipment do you use?

Some of the best available! Ted has and uses the finest professional DJ EV speakers, backed up by a powerful QVC power-amp. This equipment performs rock-solid, with only occasional tune-ups for quality control. Ted has the redundancy to cover any equipment issues that could arise, rare though they may be. Rest assured, it's great equipment! Ted also includes a 4-color light system, if you request, at no extra charge.

Can we make requests?

Absolutely! Requests can help mold and create the right music sets for a great evening. The bride & groom’s requests are always considered first, particularly for those important moments. Requests from the crowd can also be important to keep them actively involved and make sure they stick around and help make the night a smashing success.

Can we request that certain songs not be played?

Of course! It’s your night! Ted works for you, and he never forgets that.

Who controls the volume?

You do! The good news is, Ted’s sound system has plenty of power, so he can comply with either request, to turn the volume up or down. One thing’s for sure, at any volume level, the system sounds great!

How do we book the date? Will you send me a contract?

Once you’ve decided to hire Ted and you and Ted have verbally agreed by phone (319-230-2500), the first thing Ted does is to send out the contract. You send it back with a self-addressed stamped envelope provided by Ted, and of course the deposit, and that will lock down your date.

When should we book the date?

Just as soon as you can, once your date and reception location are chosen, and you’ve found which DJ you want to hire. Ted books up quickly. It’s first come, first serve.

Does the DJ interact with the crowd?

Yes! Ted has all the skills of an MC and entertainer. But, this is still up to you. The level of involvement can vary depending on the environment you wish to create. Ted is not a bump on a log. He has a personality, and he will use it if you want him to. One night, Ted performed a DJ show following a professional stand-up comedian. The crowd responded with feedback that “Ted was funnier than the comedian.” While this is not normally the case, and Ted does not sell himself as a humorist, he does know how to have a good time, and more importantly, to make sure that your guests do, too.

What about music?

Ted has thousands of songs! What you want and ask for, you get. Generally, it’s best when you and Ted communicate (in person, by e-mail, etc.), as to what type of musical environment you want, and specific selections which you do and don’t want played. Ted’s a people-pleaser, and if it’s important to you, it’s important to him. An in-person consultation prior to your big day is always advisable, and Ted’s happy to accommodate you. And, you can always bring along some of your own CD’s if you want.
